Sometimes deaf people do use a spoken language, especially when talking with hearing people .Sometimes hearing people use a sign language with each other,rather than speaking . But deaf people tend to use sign languages ,and hearing people tend to use spoken languages . Some deaf people can also understand spoken words by looking at a speaker 's lips . This is known as lip-reading . It is hard to learn , and few people do it well . Sometimes signing and lip-reading are mixed , especially when deaf and hearing people are talking to each other.

Sign languages are not universal . That means there is not one single sign language for all deaf people around the world .There are many different sign languages . Each deaf community can develop its own . Usually there is different language in each country . Linguistics have identified at least 137 different sign languages and they have different names such as AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL) , BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE (BSL) and TURKISH SIGN LANGUAGE (TSL) .

Most women in Ghana work to earn an income in addition to playing their roles as housewives and mothers. Most Ghana 's working women are farmers . Only one woman in five is simply a housewife .Even these often earn money by weaving rugs or cooking things to sell.

Nine out of ten women fifteen years of age and over married. Women say they would like to have six or more children, and in fact
an average of seven children is born to every woman. In short ,the normal life for most Ghanaian women is to combine an active role in the economy with an active role as wife and mother of a large family.

Traditionally the task of motherhood have been shared .Mothers and sisters and all helped to raise the children and do the daily work . when the family grew older , older sisters and brothers also helped to care younger brothers and sisters in the home .

Today with more children going to school ,with more people moving away from their traditional homes where support from their family would be provided , it seems impossible for the mother to continue to play her multiple roles in the home and in the economy .
